The Chamber of Commerce is among 70 signatories of a letter criticising the decision to pause’ the upgrades to the region’s railways.
The Yorkshire Post-initiated letter asks the Government to confirm its commitment to strengthening the Northern economy by backing transport infrastructure, stating the that the business community feels “betrayed” since the U-turn on 25 June. The signatories, which include other Chambers in Yorkshire and key businesses and other organisations like Leeds Bradford Airport, call for the upgrades to be reinstated at the earliest opportunity, and challenge the Government to demonstrate its commitment to a ‘One Nation Britain’ and the Northern Powerhouse concept.
