Former B&B site to become Lidl store

Plans for a new supermarket on the former B&B site in Bingley have been approved.

Supermarket chain Lidl bought the land from rivals Sainsbury last year and has now said it plans to start work on the site within months, with a view to opening a new store there in early 2019.

Sainsbury bought the site in 2010, receiving planning permission the following year.  It then put plans on hold in 2015 as demolition of the former Bradford & Bingley building was underway.

Up to 40 jobs will be created as part of the new development.
