CHAMBER SUPPORT TO BRING BUSINESS AND SCHOOLS TOGETHER

West & North Yorkshire Chamber has launched a new membership service which will help bridge the gap between the world of education and business. Membership of the ‘Young Chamber’ will allow schools and colleges to benefit from the Chamber’s connections with local businesses and help develop their leadership teams.

Young Chamber will enable students to learn and develop crucial employability and soft skills which employers value. Activities they may take part in include workplace visits, business talks from local employers, in-school career events and mock interview sessions.

The Chamber offers three levels of membership to schools and colleges depending on what they hope to achieve: standard, premium and pay as you go. Standard membership gives access to discounts on Chamber events, online learning, free legal and HR helplines plus specialist training for governors and school leaders, amongst other benefits. Premium membership provides extended opportunities for schools and colleges to engage with businesses, with access to key decision makers and exclusive networking events. Pay-as-you-go offers a range of bespoke services with discounts that schools and colleges can purchase when they need them.

Sandy Needham, chief executive of West & North Yorkshire Chamber said: “We are extremely excited about launching this new service to support schools in Leeds, Bradford, York & North Yorkshire. It is imperative our young people gain the skills, knowledge and experience they need to help them make informed career choices and which will prove invaluable when they enter the workplace.

“There is already good work being done to support education providers wanting to engage with business and vice versa, such as through the E3 Bradford project, but we hope this will help cement relationships and also provide governors and management teams with further opportunities to engage with business. Indeed for any schools and colleges that wants to be more enterprise focussed, Young Chamber is a good place to start.”
