West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has responded to the airport’s recent consultation on its future growth plans.

The Chamber enthusiastically welcomes the objectives to grow and expand the airport’s services, underlining the recognition that the air industry contributes a substantial amount to economic growth in West and North Yorkshire.  The Chamber response includes a call for more business destinations to be added to the airport’s roster, with an offer to work with it to help bring that about.  We also applaud the plans to make land available adjacent to the airport to create an innovation park.

On surface access, the response reiterates earlier calls for more to be done here.  Investing in this area is essential, but we have urged caution on one of the proposed solutions: a parkway rail station on the Harrogate line near to Horsforth is not ambitious enough.  It offers no improvement from the Bradford side and is far from ideal as far as Leeds is concerned.

The Chamber remains a long-standing supporter of the airport and wants to continue working closely with this important and influential partner.
