100 businesses sign up for Chamber’s Raising the Bar

West & North Yorkshire Chamber have reached a significant milestone as the one hundredth business signs up to its ‘Raising the Bar’ initiative and they launch their Raising the Bar Week.

Raising the Bar allows businesses all of sizes to record and benchmark the activities they undertake in the four key areas of community, environment, economy and education. It provides recognition for all the great deeds businesses undertake that make our region a better place to live and work.

The new Raising the Bar website brings together those with projects and activities needing help and companies who have time and resources, including volunteers, to complete them.  The online service is free to use.

The scheme also has an annual awards ceremony which takes place later this year. The awards recognise businesses who have undertaken activities in the four areas and who have gone the extra mile.

Rob Lawson from Provident Financial, who supports the scheme and has been involved since its inception, commented: “This is a unique initiative as it recognises the contribution of all businesses from sole trader to large corporate.  The awards are a real celebration of the great work being done across West & North Yorkshire and a great event to attend.”

Stephen Wright chairman, West & North Yorkshire Chamber added: “We’re acting as a kind of a broker in this scheme bringing together individuals, businesses and organisations that can give support or need it. It’s a chance for businesses to show their involvement in their community and demonstrate that they don’t operate in a bubble – and can have an impact on their surrounding area and economy.”

To celebrate the hard work done by employees and businesses involved in the scheme, the Chamber is holding a ‘Raising the Bar Week’ from 4th to 8th July 2016.

Businesses are invited to share their news stories around the four themes (community, environment, economy and education) which the Chamber will help publicise through its social media networks. This includes their videos, press releases, blogs and photos which will be shared by the Chamber and culminating in a drinks reception at the end of the week.*

Raising the Bar is free to Chamber members. Non-members can also be a part of Raising the Bar for a small joining fee.
