Business Adviser – Full Description

Contract type: Fixed term appointment to end June 2019

(Secondment from partner organisations would be welcomed. Please ensure that permission has been requested for secondments from your line manager prior to application)

Hours: 35 hours/week

Team: Business Services Department

Ad:Venture is a £12 million programme, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which will support new and young business across the Leeds city region achieve their growth potential. The programme is delivered and supported by a wide partnership of organisations, including, local authorities, chambers of commerce, universities, and social enterprises. The programme offers a range of support including, grants, one to one advice and workshops, along with specialist support from our partners.

We are recruiting a further Business Adviser to join our team, to work across the Leeds City Region.  Area to be covered is mainly across the central area with particular emphasis on Leeds, working out of both our offices and those of our partners.

The advisor team is central to the delivery of support and guidance to pre start and start-up businesses up to 36 months old with growth potential and opportunities to create jobs.

The post holder will have strong written and oral communication skills to aid effective communication with clients and be expected to work to a high level to meet the programmes audit standards.

You will need experience of business support and engagement, ideally in a role where you are working directly with business providing a range of support.  Experience of working with growth start-up businesses would also be an advantage along with strong emphasis on support with business planning and financials, in addition to strategic planning.

 

Commercial Director BEF – Full Description

BEF is a social enterprise and Community Development Finance Initiative that operates in the alternative finance market. Since the first loan was made in Bradford in 2004, the organisation has now grown into a Group of Companies that currently lends in Yorkshire and Humber, Tyneside and Tees Valley and in North Lincolnshire.

We are a delivery partner of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Funds microfinance loans and of the government’s Start-up loans scheme.

Main function of job:

(Note: In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required)

The Commercial Director will oversee the sales and operational aspects of the mission driven group of companies. With experience within the financial services sector they will manage the investment teams and administrators to deliver the organisation goals. You, in conjunction with the Head of Investments & the Head of Marketing, will be responsible for pricing and product development. You will work with the executive management team to meet the organisational goals of the companies.

This will be a board position and will require the person to act as de facto deputy to the CEO undertaking some of the aspects of the CEO role as and when required.

It comes with regulatory responsibility and will require the person to be FCA registered currently as an approved person but eventually through the certified regime.

 

Investment Manager – BEF – Full Description

The main function of job:

You will be working as part of a team of Investment managers but you will also need to be a self-starter. You will need to be able to identify and bring in lending opportunities to the organisation ideally from established introducer contacts in the region. You are supported by a dedicated marketing and administration resource.

You will be putting proposals together to present to the credit panel and will be used to meeting strict targets for lending and managing a portfolio of clients. You will have experience of working within the SME sector and have a good working knowledge of all issues relating to running an SME.

Possibly with a banking, accountancy or a business background specialising in access to finance. You will be a good self-starter confident with reading and interpreting a set of accounts and comfortable with working in a team environment.
You will be required to collect evidence from the businesses and follow a strict paperwork audit trail to comply with our Fund providers’ contractual requirements.
